Second Deployment From NSW Boosts Canadian Firefighting Effort

A second New South Wales Rural Fire Service contingent of 49 personnel will deploy to Canada on June 6th, 2023, following another formal request from the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre to assist with wildfires burning in parts of Alberta.

28 personnel deploying from NSW are members of the RFS, ten from NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, six from Forestry Corporation NSW, four from Fire and Rescue NSW, and one member from NSW State Emergency Service. Facilitated by AFAC National Resource Sharing Centre, this second group will be made up primarily of arduous firefighters and roles of incident management and aviation. They will likely be required for up to 42 days.

This request comes just days after the NSWRFS agreed to sending their 737 Fireliner, the Marie Bashir to the United States ahead of the fire season there.
